LOCAL ENTREPRENEUR RECOGNIZED FOR EXCELLENCE

International organization awards first Legends of Barter Award

WINTER PARK, Fla. (Oct. 8, 2009) – The International Reciprocal Trade Association (IRTA) awarded its first-ever Legends of Barter award to Scott Whitmer, president and CEO of Winter Park-based Florida Barter. The award was recently presented at IRTA’s 30th Annual Convention held in Dallas, Texas.

“Over the past 28 years, Scott Whitmer has consistently set the standard for the modern trade and barter industry,” said Ron Whitney, IRTA’s executive director. “He has worked tirelessly to promote organized barter as an important business tool and has raised awareness of the industry by growing Florida Barter into the largest independent organized barter system on the entire U.S. east coast.”

The Legends of Barter award recognizes individuals who have served the modern trade and barter industry for a period of 10 or more years from 1979 to 2009. During that time the honoree, as evidenced through positive and identifiable actions, has measurably contributed to the shape, definition and growth of the modern trade and barter industry. Nominations for the award were received from around the world.

“I am so pleased to be the recipient of this prestigious award,” said Whitmer. “To be recognized for excellence by your peers is, in my opinion, the highest possible honor.”
Whitmer was elected to the position of chairman of the IRTA’s prestigious Uniform Currency Clearinghouse (UCC) earlier this year. The UCC establishes and regulates the universal standards for international barter and trade transactions.
